Awesome Dropbox alternative starts at 22GB free storage

about copycrane 150x150 Awesome Dropbox alternative starts at 22GB free storageI usually post about Magento, e-commerce or psychology. But sometimes I encounter a cool online service or product and I cannot resist to share it with you :). In the same category I’ve share over 750 invites to a closed beta of Quora and shared many invites to Google+ and Wunderkit Pro when they were still in closed beta.

Today is another day for a product I think will be great: Copy.com.

If you know services like Dropbox, SugarSync or Skydrive you’re familiar with the concept of a cloud sync & storage service. Basically, you have a folder on your computer and whatever you put in there, it get’s synced to the cloud and to any other computer you’ve hooked up to the service. Great for backup and also great for sharing files and folders with anyone (even when the other party doesn’t use that particular service).

I’ve used Dropbox for a long time, but this weekend I came across Copy.com which seems to have a nice edge over Dropbox.

Sharing

Copy.com has a more elaborate way of managing file and folder permissions with people and groups which is great when you share a lot with friends, family, colleagues or clients. They also have a Corporate version if you want even more functionality.

Multiplatform, multidevice

Besides that, they started with apps for MacOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android out of the box, that’s really great for multiplatform support and people using multiple platforms and devices (like I am).

The most important: loads of free storage!

But the biggest kicker for Copy.com is their storage (and what can be more important for an online storage service?). They start you of with 15GB of free storage (20GB if you use this link and an extra 2GB if you tweet about them) which is much more compared to the 2GB you get when you start with Dropbox. As an extra: when you refer someone to Dropbox, they give you 500MB extra storage. But when you refer someone to Copy.com they give you 5GB extra storage which can really give your online drive a boost and gives you the ability to maybe even backup and your complete music or photo collection online making it accessible across devices.

So if you want to give it a try, you can signup here and we’ll both get 5GB extra storage. Good luck and let me know what you think of the service in the comments below!

Wunderkit Pro (90 days beta) invites

I just got invited for a Wunderkit Pro Beta account (which lasts for 90 days before you get downgraded to a free account, no details on pricing just yet). Time for a short review and invites!

WunderkitCouch Wunderkit Pro (90 days beta) invites

First impression

Well, it certainly looks wonderful and just like Wunderlist. Not a surprise since they’re both build by 6wunderkinder from Berlin. The interface looks friendly and clean (but you do have to like ‘wooden’ backgrounds). And where Wunderlist is meant as ‘just’ a task management/ GTD system, Wunderkit is meant as a broader system for creating, organizing and accomplishing ‘things’. You can create workspaces (projects) where you can add tasks, notes and communicate about the project with team members. Projects can be public so you can publish public updates to a project. It kinda looks like a Twitter stream for projects which others can follow and you can also post public personal tweets eh… updates. Not sure anybody is waiting for yet another system that does that, but that’s what everyone thought of Twitter too when that started so we’ll see how that’s going. You can also view/ join /follow other public projects and comment on those.

Here’s the official walkthrough of the system:

Wunderlist Plus

I really don’t see me using a system like this and the way it currently works I don’t really see the added value for most people/projects. It doesn’t add that much value to Wunderlist (why give it another name? It’s just Wunderlist Plus IMHO). I know social is hot these days, but I don’t see the added value for (most) projects to have such a heavy social component. But if you already use and love Wunderlist, I bet this will be a very nice upgrade for you, especially if you want to use it with teams.

Integrations

Most of my tasks and todo’s follow from the conversations I have in my e-mail. And I need to follow-up on most via e-mal. So if you want me to use a task management / GTD system, I personally require a (tight) integration with my e-mail system (Gmail in my case). But that isn’t available and I’m not going to copy/paste tasks and e-mails. In my case a deal-breaker: if a new GTD system wants me into a switch, it has to have a tight Gmail integration. And I don’t mean the ability to foward e-mails to a certain e-mail adres to create tasks. That’s not going to cut it. Another integration that would help Wunderkit, is to sync the Notes section with Evernote (I don’t need anóther notes program). For many projects filesharing is important too so a Dropbox integration would als help with that.
I think that to be a succes, a GTD system should help me to improve my curent workflow. Not introduce a complete new one.

Recurring subtasks

To end the review with a positive: Amongst the new features sub-tasks (break larger tasks down into subtasks) and recurring tasks. Something I see missing in most (and my current) GTD system.

Get in!

If you’re (still) interested :), feel free to give it a try! I just got a Wunderkit Pro Beta account which means I can send others an invite. Just like I did previously with invites to Quora (I invited almost 1000 people there) and Google+ I started handing them out here on my blog.

If you’d like to give Wunderkit Pro a try too, here’s what you can do:

  1. Make sure you follow me…
  2. Place a comment bellow including the e-mail address you want to receive the invite on. I’ll do my best to invite you to Wunderkit within 48 hours (it’s a manual process).
  3. Be happy with you new Wunderkit Plus Beta account :)

Do note that the Wunderkit Plus account only lasts for 90 days. After that you’ll be automatically downgraded to a free account. I don’t see any information on the Wunderkit website that shows what the Plus pricing will be.

PS: if you are wondering: I’m currently using ActiveInbox as a GTD system.

Want a Google+ Invite?

google plus icons 300x2341 Want a Google+ Invite?I don’t think I need to explain what Google Plus is do I? If you’re unfamiliar with it, check this Google Plus introduction from Mashable to read all about Google attempt to launch (for the fourth time) a social network that can match Facebook.

What Google did right this time

Although Google has been unlucky in the past, and the product is just in Beta right now, they definitely did some thing right this time. A big problem with social networks I have is that I need to use different social networks to keep different kind of groups of people seperate. I use Twitter for the most public things, Facebook for friends and LinkedIn for Business.

But even then I often struggle at where and what to post. I have several interests (open source, ecommerce in general, Magento, psychology, online persuasion) and people that follow me might be interested in one topic, but not in the others. If I post something on a network EVERYONE in that networks sees that message.

Google Plus tries to solve that problem with ‘Circles’: You can add people to different circles (for example: I have a ‘Magento’ circle) and all people that I know that are interested to Magento are put into that Circle. When I post something about Magento, I select that group so only they see that message and I don’t bother everyone else with Magento if they’re not interested in that. Great for better targetting an personalization!

I do see a problem arising with this though: At first: it’s gonna be hard to manage many thousands of contacts when you need to manually tag averyone with a certain circle. Second: I would mainly want to use this to not bother people with content they’re not interested, it’s not that I want to block people from not seeing it. Therefore I’d like to be able to have ‘Public’ circles so people could subscribe to my circle topics and let my friends decide on the topics they want to read, instead of me deciding for them. I do see that all circles have a ‘Private’ label but I don’t see a way to make them public at the moment. Hopefully something Google will add in the future.

Join me, get in!

Enough talk, you came for an invite! I’ve got a Google + account and by posting a message to specific mailaccounts, those accounts get an invite to Google+! Just like I did previously with invites to Quora (I invited around 400+ people there) I started handing them out, and it appears many people like to give it a try: I already send out around 50 70 120 invites!

If you’d like to give Google Plus a try too, here’s what you can do:

  1. Make sure you follow me…
  2. Place a comment bellow including the e-mail address you want to receive the invite on. I’ll do my best to invite you to Google plus within 24 hours.
  3. Be happy with you new Google Plus account :)

Do note that Google doesn’t immediately send out the e-mail invites after I added you to Google Plus. Because of the high demand, they limit the number of people getting onto the system, this is not something I have any influence over…

Want a Quora invite?

quora 150x150 Want a Quora invite?Quora is a new Q&A website (something like Aardvark) combine with wiki-like features. From the Quora site: ”A continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it.” Interesting about Quora is that they’ve managed to get many big CEO’s on board answering questions from whoever asks them, like Magento CEO Roy Rubin. I’ve got an account and apparently unlimited invites. I started handing them out yesterday, and it appears many people like to give it a try: I already send out 20 40 50 70 180 350 750 invites!

You can follow the next steps to get a Quora invite:

  1. Click on the ‘Buy now’ button in the article and register with Cleeng
  2. Pay $0,49 through any payment method you like (PayPal, Creditcard, SMS, iDeal etc.)
  3. Enter your e-mail address in the form that appears on this page after payment

That’s it! After that I can send you the Quora invite. It also includes a Social referral system: if you share the Cleeng link to this page (http://cleeng.it/t9qRGU) and someone else also buys a Quora invite, you get a 25% referral fee!

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Your Email (required)

Sending out invites is a manual process, but I will send out all invites within 24 hours. I won’t use your e-mail address for any other purpose, it’s just the only way that I can provide you with the Quora invite.
